CLOUD COMPUTING & PENETRATION TESTING

Cloud Computing and Penetration Testing

Cloud computing is a hot topic in computing which offers a variety of computing resources as utilities over the Internet on pay-for-use model. It creates a paradigm shift in how we harness IT and offers several benefits compared to traditional on-premise computing model which results in reduced costs, increased agility and flexibility. There are many providers in industry today which offer various cloud services ranging from infrastructure to software. It is important to understand what cloud computing is, why it is so promising, what impacts it will have on IT industry and how individuals can key into it. Penetration testing on the other hand is a method of evaluating the security of a computer system or network by simulating an attack from unauthorised user. The process involves an active analysis of the system for any potential vulnerabilities that could result from poor or improper system configuration, both known and unknown hardware or software flaws, and operational weaknesses in process or technical countermeasures. This analysis is carriedout from the position of a potential attacker and can involve active exploitation of security vulnerabilities. The goal of the workshop is to facilitate the exchange of ideas in the myriad of areas that are at the core of cloud computing, as well as areas that overlap with cloud computing and security. The areas to be covered by the workshop include architecture, services, security, high performance computing, edge computing, the internet of things and penetration testing with hands-on session.
