The 2016 IT Professionals’ Assembly with the theme, “Towards a Dependable and Sustainable National IT Infrastructure” was held in Kaduna, Kaduna State from Wednesday 8th – Thursday 9th June, 2016.
The annual CPN Information Technology Professionals’ Assembly is a yearly gathering of Information Technology practitioners in Nigeria and Diaspora with the objective of discussing and strategizing on emerging issues in Information Technology and generate recommendations and decisions that imparts positively on the industry and the nation.
As it was with past editions of the programme, the 2016 IT Professionals’ Assembly was preceded with the induction of about three hundred (300) members into the profession. Seasoned speakers from the academia and Industry presented papers on wide range of topics considered germane to the development of IT practice in Nigeria.
In his Keynote Address delivered by the Director, ICT, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. I. K. Oji, the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said that the Federal Government recognized the critical role of IT in the development agenda, and has therefore made IT a priority. The Minister lamented the poor state of IT in the country. He challenged Council to work with government towards the attainment of the National goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also challenged the participants at the Kaduna Assembly to discuss how the nation Nigeria can facilitate technology – enabled learning as a way of preparing the youths for the future workplace. Mallam Adam lauded CPN and assured it of government’s continued support.
Also, the Honorable Minister for Science & Technology, represented by Professor Mamman applauded Council for choosing the theme for this year’s Assembly. Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said the theme of the Assembly was apt and fits perfectly with the present administration’s desire to improve the nation’s many comatose infrastructure as well as strengthen the national economy through the exploration of viable non – oil revenue sources.
The 2016 IT Professionals’ Assembly was rounded off with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of members and a closing Banquet where a member of staff, Mrs. Joycee Onwah was presented with an award as the Staff of the Year.
