The Minister for Education, Adamu Adamu inaugurated the 2017-2019 Council of Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) [CPN] on Friday 8th September, 2017.


At the ceremony which was held inside the Minister’s Conference Room, at the Federal Ministry of Education, in Abuja, the Minister said that as the Agency of Government established to control and regulate the practice of Information Technology profession in Nigeria, the role of CPN in the scheme of developmental goals of government cannot be over-emphasized. He identified Information Technology as a critical sector and the flagship of other professions which the government is according the necessary support and recognitionin order to attain sustainable national developments.

 

The Minister for Education said though the nation has high expectations of CPN, the caliber and the constitution of the 2017-2019 Council gave him confidence that CPN has all it takes to face the challenges of regulating the fastest developing profession in the world.


The Minister reminded the Council that the Federal Ministry of Education was conscious of its efforts at enforcing the Act by making it mandatory for all individuals and corporate organizations that are practicing Information Technology in Nigeria to register with CPN. He reiterated that the global practice is for professionals to regulate their profession properly in order to ensure standards and best practices. He thereforeasked all Individuals and Corporate organizations that practice Information Technology to register with Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), stressing that the Council has the support of the Ministry and of government in its fight against quacks, impostors and all irregularities in the IT industry.


In closing, the Minister enjoined the Council to come up with initiatives that will help government achieve its set objectives of making Nigeria a giant IT compliant economy. He encouraged the Council to partner with government to ensure that the nation turned out new generations of youths that are properly equipped with IT knowledge and skills, and positioned for global competitiveness.
