Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), [CPN] held a meeting with the Management of the Standard organization of Nigeria (SON). The virtual meeting which held this Thursday morning was to consider areas of collaboration, especially as it affects IT standards.
In his remarks, the Vice President/Vice Chairman-in-Council Mr. Kole Jagun who stood in for the President/Chairman-in-Council, informed the meeting that, it was in recognition of the increasing global prominence of Information Technology (IT) and the need to put appropriate regulatory mechanism in place to ensure that growth and development in Nigeria IT sector occurs within an atmosphere that is devoid of quackery, arbitrary practice, and lack of standard that made the Federal Government to establish the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) [CPN] in 1993 as a corporate entity, and charged it with the regulation, control and supervision of the computing profession and practice in Nigeria in line with Section 1 (2) of the Act. He said as sister Agencies, it behooves on both CPN and SON to come together, and seek areas of collaboration in the discharge of their mandates.
In his response, the SON DG, Mallam Farouk Salim said he was happy about the possibilities and opportunities that the coming together of CPN and SON portend. He said SON was open to collaborations with other Agencies in the realization of its mandate. He said he looked forward to receiving proposals from CPN on specific areas of collaboration and complementarities.
At the meeting which was held at the instance of CPN, the two sister Agencies agreed to cooperate and deepen discussions at ensuring that standards, especially regarding specifications, and quality management are upheld for the betterment of Nigeria.
Other Management staff of SON at the meeting included Barrister Umaru Kawu, Director, Legal/Council Services, Mrs. Chinyere Egwuonwu, Director, Standards Development, Dr. Nuhu Yahaya Fana, Director, Planning, Research & Statistics, and Mr. Rilwan Adebola Fashina Head, Public Relations. The CPN team had in attendance, Prof Adesina Sodiya, President, Nigeria Computer Society & Chairman, Registration, Regulation & Control Committee Mr. Adebayo Adegbiji, Chairman, Compliance & Enforcement Sub-Committee of the RR & C Committee, Mr. Oluwatoyin Komolafe, Director, Membership & Registration, Mrs. Abibat Olatunji, Secretary, Compliance & Enforcement Sub-Committee, and Mr. Aderemi Raji-Awe, Head Corporate Communications.
