In furtherance of its role as the awarding body by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for all Information and Communication Technology-related skills under the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), has developed Thirty-Five (35) National Occupational Standards (NOS) aimed at addressing the digital skills gaps as well as shaping the future of ICT education in Nigeria.
The digital skills would, among other things, enable entrepreneurial development, job creation, employment and National development. CPN identified some gaps and developed standards for new areas in ICT like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, UI/UX, etc, to ensure Nigerians acquire ICT skills qualifications that position them to compete globally and relevant to employers of labour in the IT industry. Candidates who would be trained using these National Occupational Standards would be able to work, develop the local economy, and be available to outsourced opportunities. This was in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The three-day workshop where the 35 National Occupation Standards (NOS) were validated was held in ICT in Abuja in December 2024. By this validation, Council now has a standard that is globally accepted, which can be used for all the digital skills that are needed in the country.
